You can make wire antennas for a modest cost that will yield excellent performance. Using dipole antennas that are resonant on a particular band, you can work all VK zones, European countries, USA etc. The antenna wire shown is 7 strands of 0.67mm copper wire. It is fairly heavy duty wire. Overall diameter is approx 3.5mm. The insulation provides protection for the copper from oxidization caused by the weather, and adds additional strength, particularly where baluns are used in the middle of the antenna to suspend the feed cable. We have used long lengths of this wire for years on 80m antennas and they have withstood severe storms and are still standing.
You can get going for around the $100 mark by making a dipole antenna, using a half roll of wire, a balun and a couple of insulators. How easy is that !

Ball Mount
The C-32 is an insulated base mount for the Hustler HF Mobile System. Combine this with the C-30 heavy duty spring to mount the MO-3 mast.
The RSS-2 spring may be used for alternate mounting where the C-32 is used by itself and the RSS-2 is mounted between the MO-3 mast and the RM-10 etc resonators.
The springs have a braided centre pigtail connecting both ends of the spring to ensure direct contact between them and prevent detuning at highway speeds.

These are SO239 antenna mounts for the PL259 style antennas below.
Mount them with a Z bracket or fold down bracket. On the vehicle front guard, boot, roof rack, and on trucks on the side mirror arm. Cable is 5 metres of RG58 low loss, double shield with braid and foil, and a loss of only 0.26dB /m at 400 MHz, or a little over 1dB for 5 metres at 70cm amateur band, and 477 MHz UHF CB band, and a lot lower loss at 2m amateur band.
